What am I missing here? It is not possible for me to convert the base images to MS Smart images because they lose some of their characteristics and introduce artifacts. I also need to be able to do this in Word, not because I don't know how to do it elsewhere, but because these images, once inserted, will be resized to various dimensions (because the source dimensions are all different) but I want to keep the overlayed imaged the same dimensions throughout. If it is not possible for me to overlay two images in this fashion, I would be willing to entertain suggestions on how I can otherwise accomplish this. If by 'overlay' you mean just layering images one on top of (in front of) another, you should be able to do this (in any Word version) regardless of file type provided you select a text wrapping style other than In Line with Text. When you click on the image, do you get the contextual Picture Tools Format tab? If so, look toward the right of the Ribbon, in the Arrange group, click on Text Wrapping and choose Square or In Front of Text.

Feb 10, 2008 Best Answer: to create a logo you should use photoshop - coz it will allow you to save as a.jpg or.gif for future use. However if word is your only option now, read on. View the picture toolbar (View -> Toolbar -> Picture) 2. Using the shapes tool in the drawing toolbar, draw your cross. When you click the shapes tool a drawing canvas opens up, click esc to get rid of it and then draw. Searching for and inserting Clip Art or pictures from other online sources from within Word isn't currently supported in Word 2016 for Mac. However, you can still add Clip Art and online pictures to a document by searching for the picture you want online, saving a local copy of it, and then inserting the copy you saved.

You should then be able to drag your graphic wherever you want it, and when you right-click, the shortcut menu should give you the ability to change the layering order using Bring to Front, Bring Forward, Send to Back, Send Backward, etc. Microsoft MVP (Word) since 1999 Fairhope, Alabama USA http://ssbarnhill.com.
